Steve Matune

Steve Matune was appointed to facility superintendent of the Northern Ohio Veterans Home located in Sandusky, Ohio in July 2002. He is responsible for the well being of 727 residents and administers direction to a workforce of 700 employees.

Mr. Matune attended Youngstown State University, Penn-Ohio Junior College and Vincennes University.

He is a native of Campbell, Ohio located in northeast Ohio.

Mr. Matune worked as a machinist for several steel fabricators in the Youngstown, Ohio area. He was elected to several positions in the United Steel Workers Union and served on the Machinist Aerospace Union.

Mr. Matune enlisted in the United States Army National Guard in 1970 serving on an “M-Day” (Mobilization) status until 1983. He served in a fulltime position for the Adjutant Generals Department for the State of Ohio as a Readiness Non-Commission-Officer (NCO) for a Military Police Company located in Youngstown, Ohio.

Mr. Matune served in Desert Shield/Desert Storm and was deployed to the Kuwait jurisdiction later serving in Operation Joint Endeavor.

Mr. Matune is the recipient of numerous conflict and peacetime military awards to include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Award with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, The Army Achievement Medal with 3 Oak Leaf clusters, The South West Asiatic Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, The Kuwait Liberation Medal, The Humanitarian Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Army Superior Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Overseas Ribbon, Professional Development Ribbon with numeral 4 device, National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.

He was awarded the 2004 AMVETS Civil Servant of Year and currently serves as North Central Regional Director for the National Association of State Veterans’ Homes, a position he has held since 2004.

Steve enjoys his time off playing golf.
