Georgetown Deputy Superintendent George Kinney
George Kinney was appointed to the position of Deputy Superintendent for the Ohio Veterans Home located in Georgetown, Ohio on March 21, 2006.
Kinney joined the Ohio Veterans Home Agency located in Sandusky, Ohio in April 1999, as the support services manager. Since that time, Mr. Kinney has served in several capacities. In April 2004, he served as agency support services director until March 2005, when he was selected for the position as Acting Chief of Staff.
Kinney, a Lawrence County native, relocated to Columbus, Ohio with his parents where he attended high school and college. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1968 and was assigned to the 319th Army Security Agency Battalion in Kassel, Germany. He achieved the rank of Sergeant E-5 and was Honorably Discharged in 1972.
In 1974 he joined the Ohio Army National Guard and went to Officers Candidate School at Ft. Benning, Ga., and was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in 1978. Over his military career he served in various positions of leadership; from Company Commander three times, Battalion Commander and ending his career as Deputy Commander of the 371st Support Group where he engaged in the duties of administering to approximately 4,000 soldiers.
LTC (R) Kinney’s military awards are numerous, including Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal 2nd Award, Ohio Distinguished Service Medal and Ohio Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster.
After 25 years of service, he retired from the Ohio Army National Guard as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1999 serving the nation and state for a total of 31 years.
Kinney and his wife of 35 years, Elfi, reside at Lake Waynoka. They are the proud parents of two children: Lee Kinney of Seattle, WA., and Anna Cullop of Newark, OH. They have three grandchildren: Hailey and Micheal Cullop and Hope Kinney.
In addition to spending time with his family, George Kinney enjoys the great outdoors, taking advantage of any opportunity to hunt and fish. |
