AMVETS say Matune is tops

The Department of Ohio section of AMVETS has named Steve Matune, superintendent of the Ohio Veterans Home in Perkins Township, the organization's "Civil Servant of the Year."

The veterans group cited Matune's willingness to work with AMVETS, provide the group advice and current information on veterans issues and his work to improve veterans benefits. Matune's efforts show his honest concern and appreciation for the services rendered by the veterans of Ohio, AMVETS officials say.

Matune hails from Campbell, Ohio, and is an Army veteran who served from 1983-97. He was appointed to his current position in June 2002.

Prior to his current job, he was deputy director and director of services. He is responsible for the well-being of more than 600 residents and directs a workforce of 700 employees.
